For games, will an i7-7700hq (2.7 base)with 7200 SATA drive outperform an i7-8550U (1.8 base) with 256GB SSD all else the same?

I am a computer science major looking for a computer that will serve as my personal/class/light gamin laptop. I am looking for something with 16gb RAM minimum (32 preferably) and something with at least an i5 processor. I'd like to have a decent battery life too.
I currently own an Asus and love it. I am leaning more towards the Asus but the Dell seems to be a great contender. If you own this computer, do you like it? What's the light leakage like? How would you rate the track pad? How many programs are you able to run without it slowing down?
Open to suggestions beyond these computers :) thanks!

which should i choose for video editing? acer aspire vx 15 or acer predator helios 300?I know everything is pretty similar spec wise except for graphics card being better on the helio, but helio has a lower screen brightness? i like to video edit on the beach in the sun sometimes and wondering if its that much of a impact where i should go with the vx because of that. what would you guys go with? is there any specs im missing thats important for video editing to choose between the 2? i7 core 7700 on both, 16gb ram on both. 3.8 ghz processor, same screen res, same storage.

guys I am planning to buy Acer Predator Helios 300. I'll be using it for gaming and a little bit photo and video editing but mainly gaming. I am planning to buy the game drive bundle which includes an additional 2tb hdd for a total of $1000. my budget is strictly $1000. is it worth its price? or is there any better performance laptop for same budget?

I am interested in possibly purchasing a Lenovo chrome book or a surface pro 4 but, I was wondering which one is better wear & tear wise as I would use it frequently for research.

A:

Lenovo is better. Surface pro is for light users who are into the two in one gimmick.
