The Nordica Astral 88 is a somewhat unique all mountain ski for women. It has a tip shape that's borrowed from the more freeride-oriented Santa Ana skis, but a flatter tail that's inspired by Nordica's Doberman race skis. It's kind of like a reverse mullet: party in the front, business in the back. Not sure what that hair style would look like, but the Astral 88 is what that looks like in a ski.
The tip shape feels smooth and catch-free even in softer, variable snow conditions, while the tail shape lets you finish a carving turn with a lot of power and finesse when you want to. The construction of the Astral 88 is also relatively unique thanks to Nordica's proprietary Torsion Bridge technology. Instead of a full sheet of metal Nordica has removed geometric shapes, leaving a grid of titanal that lies across the top of the core.
It gives the ski the performance benefits of metal (smooth, damp, powerful), but doesn't have the same weight. This makes it less fatiguing overall, and also a little bit easier to maneuver because of the lighter swing weight. For those that want a ski that can rip turns on groomers, but is a little more versatile and forgiving than a carving-specific ski, the Astral 88 is the ticket.
