The demonstrations Bridgestone put together showcased the Blizzak WS80's impressive snow and ice traction, which seems like a nice evolutionary step beyond the already respected capability of its predecessor, the Blizzak WS70.

If you liked the overall performance of the older Blizzak WS70, you are not going to be disappointed with the newer WS80. It delivers as promised. The only way to put is to simply say that at this point the Bridgestone WS80 is at the top of the class for studless winter tires.

The Ultimate Snow Tire?

the Blizzak WS80’s performed beyond anything I was expecting. It’s like the engineers knew exactly what was wrong with their old tire, and created a new one which built on its previous-gen high performance and took away all of the downsides.

The bottom line is this, if you live in Seattle and you don't do snow sports, you don't need AWD or 4WD. You just need to have smarter driving habits and pick up a dedicated set of winter tires. If you have RWD, enjoy it, even in the snow.v

Best Winter Tire on the Market?

Overall the Blizzak WS80s offer a vast improvement over the already popular WS70s. Bridgestone has included some of their finest technologies and construction on this tire, making it a winter powerhouse for the average driver.

+ pros

A hydrophilic coating keeps the tire firmly gripping the road in the snow and ice.
Improved tire cavity shape helps spread the load, for better performance and an even wear.
Sipes and miniature studs give increased handling and breaking in winter conditions.
Angled tread blocks and increased block edges increase grip.

- cons

On sportier chassis, softness does creep into the handling.
They can be a little noisy in dry conditions.

Great Tires For Winter Roads (Great on ice, slush and snow, too!)

After living with the Blizzak WS-80 and it’s predecessor, we are convinced that having winter tires is a necessity for keeping your family—like ours—safe. The expense of winter tires is more than offset by even the inconvenience of even the smallest accident.

The Blizzak WS80 performs equally well in mixed snow and ice conditions, which is why it is such an improvement over its predecessor. One of the biggest changes in WS80 has been the lateral snow grip, which is a positive development, indeed. The tires are firm, yet smooth on most surfaces. There’s no evidence of squishiness of any sort, which is good to see.
